MOTAC revokes Kenari Utara Travel & Tours bus operator licence

MOTAC revokes Kenari Utara Travel & Tours’ licence after court conviction for breaching regulations following fatal UPSI student accident

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has revoked the bus operator licence of Kenari Utara Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd effective from September 11.

MOTAC confirmed the Tourism Commissioner took this action under Section 8 of the Tourism Industry Act 1992.

“The ministry views any violation of legal provisions by licenced tourism operators seriously,” MOTAC stated.

It emphasised its commitment to safeguarding public welfare and interests.

The revocation follows the Gerik Magistrate’s Court conviction of Kenari Utara Travel & Tours on November 3.

The company faced two charges under Regulation 6(1)(f) of the Tourism Industry Regulations 1992 for breaching licence conditions.

These breaches involved prohibited transactions with unlicenced parties.

This case connects to the tragic June 9 accident in Gerik that killed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students. – Bernama
