Tropical storm Fung-Wong advisory issued for South China Sea

MetMalaysia warns tropical storm Fung-Wong may cause strong winds and rough seas in South China Sea, moving northwest at 15 km/h

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued an advisory regarding tropical storm Fung-Wong currently affecting the region.

MetMalaysia’s National Weather and Earthquake Operations Centre detected the storm at 8 am at latitude 19.8° north and longitude 117.9° east.

The storm is located approximately 335 kilometres northwest of Laoag City in the Philippines.

It is currently moving towards the northwest at a speed of 15 km/h with maximum wind speeds of 111 km/h.

MetMalaysia noted the storm is approximately 1,439 km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.

“The conditions may cause strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea,” the department stated.

During its impact on the Philippines, Fung-Wong caused 18 fatalities and forced 1.4 million people to evacuate. – Bernama
