UPSI climbs global rankings, strengthens Malaysia’s education reputation

UPSI rises to 126th globally in QS rankings, achieves UNESCO recognition for preschool and multiple international awards in 2025 convocation

TANJONG MALIM: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris continues to enhance Malaysia’s global standing through multiple international recognitions and academic achievements.

UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Md Amin Md Taff announced the university now ranks 126th globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, rising from 151st previously.

The institution also climbed to 156th place in Asia in the QS World University Rankings Asia 2026, up from 165th the previous year.

“In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, UPSI remains strong among the top 601 universities worldwide,” he said during the 27th Convocation Ceremony.

Md Amin emphasized this success reflects UPSI’s commitment to establishing Muallim as a global centre of educational excellence.

The Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, who serves as UPSI Chancellor, graced the ceremony at Tuanku Canselor Hall.

Md Amin confirmed the university will intensify efforts to elevate UPSI’s global profile through strategic initiatives and high-impact programmes.

“Bitara NCDRC-UPSI Kindergarten became the first preschool in Malaysia recognised by the UNESCO Associated Schools Network,” he highlighted.

Additional achievements include Assoc Prof Dr Norliza Jamaluddin receiving the Best Malay Language Academia Award.

Student Ng Zhen Fan Shankar was honoured as the National Student Icon during the convocation period.

UPSI earned a 4 Diamond rating in the 2030 Low Carbon City Challenge and won the Best Traditional Dance Award in South Korea.

The university also received a Gold Award for its GeoAttendance innovative project in Taiwan.

The 2025 convocation, running from November 11 to 18, celebrated 7,173 graduating students across eight sessions.

This included 4,467 Bachelor’s degree recipients and 693 Diploma graduates. – Bernama
