PETALING JAYA: BMW Group Malaysia today signed a partnership agreement with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) to advance Malaysia’s technical and vocational education ecosystem through the BMW NextGT programme.
This collaboration marks another milestone in BMW Group Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and building a sustainable, future-ready automotive ecosystem.
This partnership is set to equip a new generation of automotive technicians with world-class skills and expertise to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry – particularly within the fast-advancing landscape of Electric Vehicle (EV) technology.
Through this initiative, BMW Group Malaysia and STDC are shaping future-ready talent to lead Malaysia’s transition towards a more innovative and electrified automotive future.
As part of the collaboration, automotive technical trainers from STDC will undergo extensive, hands-on training developed under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework. The programme will immerse participants in comprehensive technical knowledge, with specialised modules including current modern automotive technologies and concepts.
Upon completion, these trainers will deliver this expertise to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, enabling them to graduate with cutting-edge, industry-standard knowledge and skills relevant to both conventional and electrified vehicle technologies.
BMW Group Malaysia managing director Benjamin Nagel said, “Today the automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and with it comes the need for a workforce that can drive this innovation forward. Our collaboration with STDC through the BMW NextGT programme is built on the foundation of belief that investing in education and technical development is key to shaping the Future of Mobility in Malaysia.
“By empowering trainers and students with the skills and knowledge aligned with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards the future of the automotive industry here.”
Selangor Menteri Besaar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said, “We are honoured by the trust and confidence that BMW Group Malaysia has placed in the Selangor state government through this collaboration with the Selangor Technical Development Centre. The BMW NextGT programme reflects Selangor’s commitment to cultivate the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards a sustainable, future mobility.
“We sincerely appreciate BMW Group Malaysia’s confidence in nurturing local talent. This initiative demonstrates the power of partnership between government and industry in advancing technical and vocational excellence, while empowering our youth with world-class skills and knowledge to position Selangor as a leading hub for advanced automotive technology and sustainable innovation in the region.”
BMW NextGT is scheduled to roll out in 2026, beginning with a collaboration involving Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt, and Quill Automobiles as initial dealer partners, with plans to extend the initiative to additional BMW dealers from 2027 onwards.
The initiative is an embodiment of BMW Group Malaysia’s commitment to cultiv

Led by the BMW Group Regional Training Centre, the internationally recognised HVE certification programme has been instrumental in developing Malaysia’s EV workforce, equipping technicians with the expertise to service and repair the most advanced BMW i vehicles worldwide.
