The federal government will not appeal the High Court ruling on Sabah’s 40% revenue grant, upholding federalism and Sabah’s constitutional rights.
KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional has welcomed the federal government’s decision not to appeal the High Court ruling on Sabah’s 40% special revenue grant.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the move as correct and aligned with the spirit of federalism.
“The coalition welcomes the decision, which demonstrates the government’s commitment to respecting the rights of the people of Sabah as guaranteed by the Federal Constitution,” he said in a statement.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said BN has always upheld Sabah’s interests and constitutional rights.
He added that BN will remain consistent in fighting for Sabah’s rights within the legal framework and spirit of the Constitution.
The Special Cabinet Meeting also decided to immediately begin negotiations with the Sabah government for responsible and transparent implementation.
On October 17, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruled the federal government acted unlawfully by failing to fulfil Sabah’s 40% revenue right from 1974 to 2021.
The Attorney General’s Chambers announced yesterday the government would not appeal the ruling on the Special Grant.
However, the government will appeal specific parts concerning abuse of power and constitutional breach findings since 1974. – Bernama
