Police work with Indonesia to probe viral bribery video claims

Malaysian police collaborate with Indonesian authorities to investigate viral video alleging URB officers solicited bribes from a footballer

SHAH ALAM: Police are working with Indonesian authorities to complete investigations into a viral video containing bribery allegations against a motorcycle patrol unit.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said they would use a police attache at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta to record the Indonesian footballer’s statement.

“We might use a PDRM attache at the Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia to assist in recording their statement,” he told a media conference at the Selangor contingent police headquarters.

Investigators have already taken statements from the police personnel involved and their teammates.

An investigation paper has been opened under Section 504 of the Penal Code regarding intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

The viral video contained allegations that URB team members solicited bribes during a vehicle inspection.

Shazeli confirmed the footballer could not be questioned earlier because he had returned to Indonesia.

In a separate development, police arrested 14 individuals during eviction work in Kampung Papan, Pandamaran.

Eleven men and three women were detained following a police report about their actions during demolition activities.

“No residents were involved. The majority arrested were from non-governmental organisations,” Shazeli clarified.

All suspects were released on police bail after preliminary investigations.

That case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in duty.

The situation grew tense when individuals claiming to be residents acted aggressively to protest the demolition work. – Bernama
