Dashcam footage captures a terrifying moment when a toddler sitting by the road forces drivers to brake, sparking debate over parental supervision.
A CHILD sitting dangerously close to the roadside was all it took for two drivers to react within seconds, turning what could have been a routine journey into a near miss that has left many questioning how quickly supervision can lapse.
A Threads user, @sitinorhafiza_, shared dashcam footage of the frightening incident while urging parents never to become complacent when supervising young children.
The post accompanied footage recorded from the user’s vehicle, which was shared as a public reminder rather than to identify those involved.
The 27-second dashcam clip shows a car travelling ahead as both vehicles approach a left turn. The leading vehicle suddenly brakes after the driver notices a small child sitting by the roadside, close to the carriageway, although the child does not appear to be attempting to cross the road.
The woman recording the footage also brakes and sounds her horn. Moments later, two adults, believed to be the child’s parents, emerge, with the man immediately picking up the child before speaking to the woman. The location of the incident was intentionally withheld.
Reflecting on the incident, the user wrote: “Please, do not ever become complacent, especially when you have small children.”
She added that the footage made her realise that “a tragedy can unfold in the blink of an eye”, saying she was “still shaking” despite managing to stop in time.
She also apologised to the child for sounding the horn, explaining: “I was simply worried about you sitting in the middle of the road.”
Many commenters focused on how narrowly a tragedy had been avoided.
“Fortunately, there was no collision,” one user wrote, adding that putting others in such danger was inconsiderate.
Another suggested the parents may have been distracted with work but said they should have taken turns supervising the child or ensured the child remained in a safer place, particularly as the shop was located beside a main road.
Others commented that traffic moves quickly in the area and warned that a passing motorcycle could have resulted in a far worse outcome.
One user questioned why another motorist visible in the footage did not sound the horn, while another argued that repeated honking would have been justified if it had alerted the parents to the danger.
