Delivery rider jailed for assaulting pregnant wife

A Melaka food delivery rider was sentenced to four months in prison for assaulting his pregnant wife at a karaoke centre earlier this month.

MELAKA: A food delivery rider was sentenced to four months in prison today for assaulting his pregnant wife.

Muhammad Aidil Azahar Rahmat, 22, pleaded guilty to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court.

Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin imposed a four-month jail term for each count, ordering the sentences to run concurrently from his arrest date on March 19.

The charges stated that he punched the back of his wife’s head and separately slapped her face, struck her head, and pushed her to the ground.

These assaults occurred at a karaoke centre in the Kota Syahbandar Business Complex on March 15.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read with Section 326A, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Prosecutor Inspector Nur Zaidah Muhamad Zailani requested a deterrent sentence, highlighting the victim’s pregnancy.

The unrepresented accused appealed for leniency, citing his mother’s poor health due to a stroke.

Case facts revealed the victim’s mother reviewed CCTV footage showing the assault after being alerted.

She later found her daughter at Melaka Hospital before bringing her home, but the victim subsequently went missing.

Fearing for her daughter and grandchildren’s safety, the mother lodged a police report.
