Selangor Sultan attends state assembly opening dinner

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah graced a dinner marking the opening of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly’s new session, where digital reforms were highlighted.

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, attended a dinner tonight held in conjunction with the opening of the fourth session of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

He was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah. The royal party was received on arrival by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San and State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

In his speech, Lau said the assembly was leading a holistic digital transformation via its e-sidang system. This system is expected to be fully operational in the second session this year following a phased rollout.

He added that institutions were exploring the use of artificial intelligence to produce Hansard transcripts. This forms part of a strategic partnership with the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre under the Teraju AI Selangor programme.

“The integration of AI technology in the transcription process not only shortens the time required to prepare Hansard, but also ensures accuracy,” Lau said. He noted it complements an electronic Hansard search system being developed for the assembly’s official portal.

Lau also said the assembly was establishing strategic cooperation with the Malaysian Parliament. This effort aims to revive the Parliamentary Services Act.

“I hope that at the Selangor level, this draft legislation can be finalised with the support of all parties,” he stated. He expressed belief the reform would make Selangor a benchmark for other state assemblies in Malaysia.

Lau, who chairs the Special Select Committee on Capability, Accountability and Transparency, confirmed a statement on findings from public hearings regarding Klang district floods would be tabled during this session.
