Selangor boosts cyber defence with AI-powered threat detection system

Selangor government implements AI-enhanced SIEM system for real-time threat detection and strengthens cybersecurity under new national infrastructure role

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is strengthening its cybersecurity defence through a Security Information and Event Management solution equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities.

State Islamic Religious Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said this initiative enables centralised security log analysis and provides automation-driven early warning capabilities.

“Through SIEM integration, the state government’s ability to detect security incidents in real time will be enhanced, allowing mitigation measures to be implemented more swiftly,” he told the Selangor State Assembly.

He was responding to questions about state government measures to strengthen cyber defence and protect citizen data amid rising global cyber attacks targeting the public sector.

Mohammad Fahmi said the state is also assessing integration of a threat intelligence platform to proactively gather global threat information.

This would enhance early warning capabilities against emerging cyber attack tactics and techniques.

Additionally, the state government is considering implementing extended detection and response for comprehensive protection across networks, devices, servers and applications.

He announced the Selangor State Secretary’s Office has been appointed head of the National Critical Information Infrastructure Sector.

This appointment was made through a letter signed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on January 28, 2025, under the Cyber Security Act 2024.

In line with this responsibility, the state government is actively drafting a Cyber Security Code of Practice through its Information Management Division.

“This Cyber Security Code of Practice will be implemented across all agencies and departments under the state government identified as NCII entities,” he said.

Additionally, the state government is establishing strategic cooperation with the National Cyber Security Agency to strengthen technical capabilities and enhance preparedness against cyber threats. – Bernama
