Malaysia targets up to 20% aerospace growth this year

Malaysia sets 15-20% revenue growth target for aerospace in 2025, driven by global aircraft demand and supply chain expansion

SERDANG: Malaysia aims to achieve a 15-20 per cent revenue growth for its aerospace industry this year, driven by rising global demand for aircraft and the continued expansion of the industry’s supply chain.

Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Sim Tze Tzin said Malaysia is currently home to about 250 aerospace companies, which generated a revenue of RM32.5 billion last year.

“We are targeting about 15 to 20 per cent increase this year, based on the trend of global aerospace expansion,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after launching the Malaysia Aerospace Summit 2026 here today, Sim noted that Airbus and Boeing continue to face significant delivery backlogs, indicating the industry’s exponential growth.

The maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) segment continues to be the main contributor to the country’s aerospace industry, alongside the manufacturing of critical components, he said.

He noted that Malaysia already has a strong MRO ecosystem, supported by airlines such as AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines, as well as the expansion of operations by Singapore-based companies.

At the same time, he highlighted that companies such as Collins Aerospace are producing critical components in Malaysia to support maintenance activities in the sector.

Sim was previously reported as saying that the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 is on track to achieve its industry revenue target of RM55 billion by 2030 despite global uncertainties.

The target represents about 25 per cent of the Asia Pacific MRO market, which is projected to exceed US$60 billion by 2030.

Last year, Malaysia’s aerospace industry continued to show positive growth, recording RM32.5 billion in revenue, supported by more than 34,700 skilled workers and over 250 companies operating within the ecosystem.

The MRO segment continues to be the main driver for the industry, providing more than 12,000 high-skilled jobs and attracting global aviation players such as Airbus, Boeing, Collins Aerospace, Safran and Turkish Aerospace Industries to invest in the country.

Themed “The Regional Gateway to Aerospace Technology, Business and Talent Networks”, the 8th edition of the MyAERO Summit 2026 was also attended by Tengku Panglima Besar of Selangor, Tengku Abdul Samad Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah; Investment, Trade and Industry Deputy Secretary-General (Industry) Datuk Hanafi Sakri; and the chief executive officer of National Aerospace Industry Corp Malaysia, Dr Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah.
