KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Perak and Selangor at temporary relief centres continues to decline as of this afternoon compared to yesterday.
In Perak, the number of victims dropped to 51 people from 16 families as of 2 pm today, compared to 110 people last night.
The Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat, in a statement, said only one relief centre at Dewan Bandaran Gopeng in Kampar remains in operation, after the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang Gelugor relief centre was closed at 1 pm today.
According to the statement, the 51 victims still sheltered at Dewan Bandaran Gopeng are residents of Kampung Ulu Geruntum, who have been evacuated to the centre since June 20.
Meanwhile, 50 victims from 13 families who had been staying at the SK Matang Gelugor relief centre since Wednesday have been allowed to return to their homes.
In Selangor, the number of victims at SK RTB Bukit Changgang relief centre in Banting dropped to 309 as of this afternoon, compared to 406 yesterday.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, the relief centre is currently accommodating victims from Taman Langat Utama 2, RTB Bukit Changgang.
On Thursday, it was reported that 32 houses in the area were affected by flooding following a bund breach about 800 metres from the residential area on Wednesday night.
