Mexico’s national team returns luxury watches gifted by US YouTuber Steve Deleonardis after mutual agreement over the gifts.
MEXICO CITY: Mexico coach Javier Aguirre and his players have returned luxury watches gifted by United States (US) YouTube star Stephen Deleonardis, the national team said on the social media platform X on Friday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
“By mutual agreement, our players decided to return to the content creator the watches that he had gifted them on his own initiative,” the World Cup co-hosts said.
Deleonardis had reportedly gifted the Mexican World Cup team and coach Aguirre Swiss luxury watches worth more than US$1 million.
Local reports said that Deleonardis, who is known as “Steve Will Do it”, visited the team’s camp in the south of the capital.
Mexico’s Record newspaper reported that the players were had “surprised and thrilled” by the gift. Deleonardis is said to have bet US$2 million on Mexico winning their round of 32 match against Ecuador, which they did with a 2-0 victory.
Mexico next play England in the round of 16 at Azteca Stadium on Sunday.
