Viral video of abandoned pit bull in Port Dickson triggers outcry and rescue appeals

A video of an abandoned pit bull in Port Dickson has sparked rescue calls and debate over illegal breeding in Malaysia.

A VIDEO showing what appeared to be an abandoned pit bull wandering alone by the roadside has triggered concern online, with many Malaysians urging animal rescuers to intervene, while others raised questions about illegal breeding and irresponsible pet ownership.

The video was shared on Threads by user @qusairy.s, where it has since garnered more than 4,300 likes and over 230 comments.

In the caption, the user questioned whether the dog was a pit bull after spotting it roaming alone near Zus Lukut Dataran Segar in Port Dickson.

“Is this a pit bull? Why is it in the middle of the road? Aren’t they expensive?” the user wrote.

In a pinned comment, the user explained that he was unable to do much himself but hoped someone else could step in to help.

“I honestly can’t do much, unfortunately. If anyone wants to take any action, I found it near Zus Lukut, Dataran Segar, Lukut,” he added.

The post quickly attracted sympathy, with many believing the dog had likely been abandoned by its owner or breeder.

“Poor thing. It looks hungry or like it’s trying to pick up its owner’s scent. Maybe the owner dumped it from a car around there and it’s trying to track their smell,” joeformlyrics wrote.

Another user, afa.alice, commented: “It really looks like it was abandoned. It looks like it has had puppies before. It seems so lost and restless, like it’s searching for something.”

Similarly, _shaam.moonfaerie said: “Looks like it was used for breeding and escaped… Hope some kind soul saves it before someone complains and harms it.”

Several commenters suspected the dog may have been abandoned after being used for breeding.

User tengleeyoon criticised the practice altogether, saying: “Breeding is karma. So if you don’t buy, they don’t sell. They’re innocent.”

“I can confirm that they just abandoned this pit bull!! Illegal breeding should be banned in Malaysia!! So painful to watch this video!! Just adopt. Why buy?” yshu_vaishu added.

Many also encouraged the user to contact animal rescue organisations.

“Post this in the Facebook group ‘Rescue Dog’, please, ASAP. Poor thing, it might have escaped or been abandoned,” commented little.khai.

Meanwhile, trinitytan84 revealed that the matter had already been forwarded to an animal welfare group, noting: “I forwarded it to MIAR. Hope they can rescue it ASAP.”

While many focused on rescuing the animal, others reminded the public that pit bulls are a restricted breed in Malaysia and urged caution.

“This shouldn’t be about how expensive the dog is. What people should be concerned about is its natural aggressiveness,” commented myra.zainn.

“Pit bulls can be dangerous because they’re an aggressive breed. Pit bull breeds, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, are prohibited in Malaysia. They are on the list of dog breeds that cannot be imported, bred or kept for public safety,” kin_ahamad added.

The dog’s current condition and whether it has since been rescued remain unknown.
