‘Pregnancy is such a hassle’: Husband’s insensitive remark at clinic triggers online outrage

A husband’s insensitive comment about pregnancy at a clinic ignites a heated online debate on empathy and respect in marriage.

A WOMAN’s account of a heartbreaking moment she overheard at a clinic has triggered a heated discussion online, with many netizens expressing anger over a husband’s remark to his heavily pregnant wife, while others questioned why she tolerated such behaviour.

Sharing her experience online, the woman said she was at a clinic when she noticed a pregnant mother arriving for her check-up with her three children following closely behind.

According to her, the woman was already 36 weeks pregnant and had reached the stage where antenatal check-ups were scheduled every week.

The woman wrote:

“It’s heartbreaking to be a woman sometimes. I was at the clinic today when I overheard a pregnant mother during her check-up.

“She was already 36 weeks pregnant and had her three young children lined up beside her, following her to the appointment.

“While she was in the examination room, the nurse explained that, at this stage of her pregnancy, she needed to come in for weekly check-ups.

“Then her husband suddenly spoke up from the back, saying, ‘Why can’t it be every two weeks? Pregnancy is such a hassle. It’s just troublesome.’

“My heart sank hearing a husband say something like that to his wife, especially when she was heavily pregnant, with their three children standing right there beside her,” she wrote.

The post quickly gained attention, with many netizens sympathising with the pregnant mother and criticising the husband’s apparent lack of empathy.

Some felt that pregnancy, especially during the final weeks, requires both physical and emotional support, and said a husband should be more understanding towards his wife, who was carrying their child.

“Not me. I’m the type who would definitely speak up. If I had a husband like this, he would definitely get an earful right there,” one user, azza_mustaffa, commented.

However, not everyone directed their anger solely at the husband. Some netizens questioned why the wife continued to tolerate such behaviour, sparking discussions about boundaries, self-worth and the importance of mutual respect in a marriage.

“A person’s bad behaviour can usually be detected from the beginning, but many women are too trusting and give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking they can change him,” butterflybunny_99 wrote.
