Penang DOSH investigates after a Bangladeshi worker dies in a fall from the 34th floor of a Bayan Mutiara construction site
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is investigating the death of a Bangladeshi worker who is believed to have fallen from a building under construction in Bayan Mutiara here.
Penang DOSH director Hairozie Asri said the department received information on the incident from an external party at 12.15 pm yesterday, following which a team of investigating officers was immediately dispatched to the site.
“Preliminary investigations found that the victim was employed by a subcontractor carrying out painting, plastering and housekeeping work at the construction site. He is believed to have been working on the 34th floor before he was found seriously injured on the canopy roof floor at Level 9,” he said in a statement tonight.
He said medical officers from Penang Hospital later confirmed that he died at the scene.
Hairozie said DOSH had issued a prohibition notice to the subcontractor to stop painting, plastering and housekeeping work in open-edge areas, as well as a prohibition notice to the main contractor.
He said all work activities related to the accident site had also been ordered to cease immediately until all the requirements of the prohibition notices had been fully complied with
