Sabah early voting closes with 91% turnout, higher than 2020

Sabah early voting centres close with 91% turnout among 24,426 military and police personnel, significantly higher than 2020 state election figures.

KOTA KINABALU: All 58 early voting centres for the 17th Sabah State Election closed by 5pm today.

The centres operated from 8am, closing in stages based on location and registered voter numbers.

A total of 24,426 voters were eligible to cast ballots during early voting.

This included 11,697 military personnel and their spouses, plus 12,729 police personnel and their spouses.

Election Commission data showed voter turnout reached 91%, or 17,333 voters, as of 3pm.

This represents a significant increase compared to the 2020 State Election.

That election recorded only 56.45% early voter turnout involving 11,781 voters at the same time.

All early voting ballots will be kept at designated police stations until counting.

They will be counted after polling closes this Saturday.

The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the state election.

Approximately 1.76 million registered voters are eligible to participate in Saturday’s polling.
