Sabah assemblymen gather at palace for cabinet swearing-in

Several Sabah assemblymen entered Istana Seri Kinabalu ahead of the expected swearing-in of the state’s new cabinet ministers.

KOTA KINABALU: Several state assemblymen were seen entering the grounds of Istana Seri Kinabalu on Monday afternoon.

The assemblymen are believed to be present for the oath-taking ceremony of Sabah’s new Cabinet Ministers.

Among those seen entering the palace grounds around 1 pm were Kadamaian assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Ewon is also the president of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO).

Other assemblymen present included Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (Karanaan), Datuk James Ratib (Sugut) and Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif (Membakut).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor was seen entering the palace at 2.18 pm.

Hajiji, who is the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman, had earlier taken his oath of office as the 17th Sabah Chief Minister on Sunday morning.

Official results from the 17th Sabah state election show GRS won 29 of the 73 state seats contested.

Warisan won 25 seats, Barisan Nasional secured six, and independent candidates won five.

UPKO won three seats, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) won two, while Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) each won one seat.
