Jamie Vardy’s brace leads Cremonese to shock win over Bologna

Veteran striker Jamie Vardy scored his first Serie A double as Cremonese beat high-flying Bologna 3-1, inflicting their first home defeat of the season.

JAMIE Vardy scored his first brace in Serie A to fire Cremonese to a stunning 3-1 away win over Bologna on Monday.

The 38-year-old veteran striker netted either side of half-time to continue his late-career adventure in Italy.

His double inflicted a first home defeat of the season on high-flying Bologna, who missed a chance to close in on the league leaders.

Cremonese took the lead through Martin Payero’s 31st-minute effort before Vardy doubled the advantage five minutes later.

The former Leicester City forward was sent clean through by Federico Bonazzoli and coolly finished through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Bologna pulled a goal back deep in first-half stoppage time via a confident Riccardo Orsolini penalty.

Vardy restored the two-goal cushion just four minutes after the restart, however, pouncing to meet Tomasso Barbieri’s pass.

The brace took his goal tally for promoted Cremonese to four in nine matches since joining in September.

Vardy signed a one-year deal with an option for another season should the club stay in Serie A.

He has been open about his desire for a new experience in a football culture he admires. – AFP
