Tengku Zafrul appointed MIDA chairman

Tengku Zafrul named MIDA chairman for a two-year term starting Dec 3, Prime Minister’s office said.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has been appointed chairman of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) for a two-year term beginning today (Dec 3).

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that the appointment was approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Besides leading MIDA, Tengku Zafrul will be assigned several additional responsibilities that are currently being finalised and will be announced by the Prime Minister in due course,” it said in a statement.

Tengku Zafrul’s tenure as Investment, Trade and Industry Minister ended today after he helmed the ministry for three years.

His Cabinet position was not renewed following the expiry of his second term as senator.

Under the Federal Constitution, a senator may only serve two consecutive terms, effectively concluding his eligibility to continue in the Cabinet.

Tengku Zafrul was first appointed a senator in 2020 and entered the Cabinet under then–prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He went on to serve in the administrations of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and later Anwar, remaining one of the few ministers to have served across multiple governments.
