Crashed microlight aircraft was registered with Malaysian sports aviation body

The microlight that crashed near Taiping was MSAF-registered, with its pilot and trainee also members. CAAM is investigating the engine failure incident.

TAPAH: The microlight aircraft that crashed near Tekah Airport in Taiping was registered with the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF).

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin confirmed both the pilot and trainee involved are also registered under the same federation.

“The incident has been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), which will conduct further investigations,” he said.

He spoke after a handover ceremony for the Tapah police chief at the district police headquarters.

The ceremony saw Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim replace Johari Yahaya, who is transferring to Nilai.

Police were notified of the crash at 10.30 am last Sunday via the NG MERS 999 system.

The injured 46-year-old pilot and 40-year-old trainee were taken to Taiping Hospital and are in stable condition.

Preliminary findings indicate the aircraft made an emergency landing due to engine failure.
