Malaysian snooker star Thor Chuan Leong clinches the men’s 6-red gold at the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok, securing his sixth career Games gold.
VETERAN national snooker player Thor Chuan Leong delivered the first gold medal for Malaysia’s snooker contingent at the 2025 SEA Games by winning the men’s single 6-red event.
The 37-year-old triumphed 5-2 over Thai opponent Danjirakul Poramin in the final held at the Thunder Dome Muang Thong Thani.
This marks Thor’s first gold in the 6-red discipline since his victory at the 2013 Games in Naypyidaw.
He revealed the win did not come easily, as he faced significant pressure and mental challenges throughout the competition.
“I am very happy because before that there was indeed pressure as this result will be a catalyst for the SEA Games in Malaysia later,” Thor told reporters.
He added that he felt a personal responsibility to secure at least one gold medal for the team, which added to the self-imposed pressure.
Thor expressed pride in continuing the legacy of teammates Lim Kok Leong and Moh Keen Hoo, who won the same event in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
The victory brings his personal tally to six SEA Games gold medals.
