Langkawi police urge relatives to come forward to identify and claim the bodies of 30 victims from a November boat capsize involving Rohingya migrants.
ALOR SETAR: Police are appealing for the next of kin of victims from a November boat capsize to come forward and claim the bodies.
Langkawi district police chief ACP Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said individuals should go to the Langkawi district police headquarters to meet the investigating officer.
The incident on November 8 involved about 100 victims, all believed to be Rohingya migrants fleeing Myanmar.
Fourteen victims survived while 30 others died in the capsize in Malaysian-Thailand border waters.
“Several of them were partially identified but not yet confirmed,” Khairul Azhar said in a statement.
He urged relatives or anyone who recognises the victims to undergo DNA testing to facilitate identification.

The boat, believed to be carrying illegal immigrants, sank triggering a nine-day search and rescue operation.
The operation covered a search area of 1,745.88 square nautical miles after the first victim was found in Langkawi waters on November 8. – Bernama
