Malaysia’s women’s hockey team wins ninth consecutive SEA Games gold with a 6-0 victory over Indonesia, overcoming tough conditions.
THE national women’s hockey team secured its ninth consecutive SEA Games gold medal with a commanding 6-0 victory over Indonesia in the final.
The match was held at the Thailand National Sports University.
Head coach Mohd Nasihin Nubli emphasised the achievement was not easily earned, noting strong competition.
“Many teams were well prepared for the SEA Games,” he said.
“Alhamdulillah, we managed to retain our gold medal. But it did not come easily.”
He praised the players for adapting quickly to tough conditions at the venue.
Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Sharuddin opened the scoring with a penalty corner goal in the eighth minute.
Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Shiek Fuad doubled the lead with a field goal 11 minutes later.
Khairunnisa Ayuni scored again three minutes before halftime for a 3-0 lead.
Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar then scored two quick goals in the 46th and 49th minutes.
Hanis Nadiah Onn completed the emphatic win with a final goal in the 57th minute.
