Flood evacuees in Pahang have decreased significantly, with only 218 people remaining at relief centres as water levels in three rivers remain dangerous.
KUANTAN: The number of flood victims in Pahang has dropped by nearly 50%.
Only 218 people from 66 families remained at relief centres this evening, down from 580 people from 167 families this morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Infobencana app, Kuantan district has the most evacuees with 138 people from 39 families.
This is followed by Pekan with 45 victims from 21 families and Maran with 35 people from six families.
Only five relief centres remain operational across the three affected districts.
Three centres are open in Pekan, with one each in Kuantan and Maran.
Despite the improving evacuation situation, water levels in three main rivers remain at dangerous levels.
The Infopublic Banjir portal reported the Pahang River at Lubuk Paku in Maran is above the danger mark.
The Pahang River at Kuala Sungai Chini in Pekan and the Keratong River in Kampung Rekoh, Rompin, are also above the danger level.
