Cybersecurity shared responsibility, not just of technology experts – NSC Chief

Cybersecurity is no longer just for tech experts but a shared duty for all, says NSC director-general at the My Cyber Hero 2026 closing ceremony

CYBERJAYA: Cybersecurity is no longer solely the responsibility of technology experts, but rather a shared responsibility of the entire community in ensuring the country’s cyberspace remains safe, said National Security Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin.

He said that in the increasingly challenging digital era, cybersecurity has evolved into a national agenda closely related to national security, economic stability, and the well-being of the people.

“The MADANI Government is committed to ensuring that the country’s digital transformation is carried out safely, inclusively, and sustainably through the implementation of the Cybersecurity Act 2024, the Malaysia Cyber Security Strategy (MCSS) 2025-2030, and various initiatives for the development of the country’s digital talent,” he said while speaking at the closing ceremony of My Cyber Hero 2026 here today.

However, Raja Nurshirwan said the success of these policies and strategies depends on the ability to build a digitally literate, responsible society with a high level of cybersecurity awareness through programmes like My Cyber Hero.

“This programme opens up opportunities for the younger generation to understand that cybersecurity is not just about technology, but also about trust, integrity, responsibility and protection for society,” he said.

Raja Nurshirwan announced that this year’s My Cyber Hero competition saw 32 of the best teams from across the country advance to the finals, involving 16 teams in the primary school category (Rookie Cyber Hero) and 16 teams in the secondary school category (Star Cyber Hero).

My Cyber Hero is a national-level cybersecurity education programme designed to equip school students with the knowledge and skills to understand, develop, and protect the country’s digital future.

The programme is organised by the NSC through the National Cyber Security Agency in collaboration with Micro Concept Tech Sdn Bhd and BlackBerry.
