KPDN deploys 197 officers for Christmas price controls in Penang

KPDN deploys 197 officers in Penang to enforce Christmas 2025 price controls, with 39 in Perlis, ensuring supply and compliance until Dec 27.

BUTTERWORTH: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has deployed 197 personnel statewide to enforce the Christmas 2025 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme.

The enforcement, effective from today until Dec 27, involves 137 enforcement and 60 monitoring officers stationed at public markets and shopping centres.

Penang KPDN director S Jegan said the officers will ensure compliance and protect consumers from unethical trading practices.

“KPDN will also cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to ensure adequate supplies of controlled items during the festive season,” he said.

He urged all parties to adhere to the maximum pricing regulations and to use mandatory pink labels for controlled goods.

Jegan warned that enforcement action would be taken against any non-compliant traders.

He reported that since Jan 1, KPDN has inspected 72,652 premises in Penang, resulting in 846 enforcement actions.

Seizures were valued at RM3.46 million, with compound fines totalling RM516,500.

From Jan 1 to Dec 22, KPDN received 2,635 complaints in the state, with 1,146 being price-related.

Meanwhile, in Perlis, the state KPDN has deployed 39 enforcement officers to ensure statewide compliance.

Perlis KPDN director Rohaida Hassan said initial monitoring indicates most traders are adhering to the stipulated price controls.

She reported no trading disruptions or complaints of excessive price hikes received thus far.

The scheme covers fourteen types of goods, including imported bone-in mutton, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, and red chillies.

The maximum price for live spent hens applies only in Sarawak.
