Flash floods hit 21 houses in Simpang Pulai after heavy rain

Twenty-one homes in Simpang Pulai were flooded after heavy rain, with blocked drains from a new housing project cited as the cause.

IPOH: Twenty-one houses in Lorong Pulai Raya 4, Simpang Pulai, were hit by flash floods following two and a half hours of heavy rain last night.

The Civil Defence Force’s Kinta District Operations Control Centre received a call to monitor the area at 9.31 pm.

A team arrived at the flood site for monitoring at 10.28 pm, assisted by four police officers from the Simpang Pulai station.

“The road was submerged and became impassable,” read a statement from the force.

It stated the cause of the flooding was a blocked drainage system due to a new housing project.

The water level in the area receded to 0.22 metres at 1.09 am after the rain stopped.

No temporary relief centres were opened as the blocked drains have been cleared.

The floodwaters have now fully receded from the area.

Simpang Pulai assemblyman Wong Chai Yi and Ipoh City Council officials visited the affected area.
