A former Immigration HQ cashier faces criminal breach of trust charges for allegedly cancelling 158 government receipts, causing an RM88,000 loss.
KUALA LUMPUR: A former financial administrative assistant at the Immigration Department has pleaded not guilty to a charge of criminal breach of trust involving RM88,000.
Che Mohd Azmi Mohd Nor, 40, was accused of cancelling 158 official government receipts for fines and compounds at the department’s headquarters.
The alleged offence occurred at the Operation, Investigations and Prosecution Division between June and August 2019.
The charge, under Section 409 of the Penal Code, carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin granted the accused bail of RM12,000 with one surety.
She also ordered him not to intimidate witnesses and set January 27 for case mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Aisyah Mohamed Zanyuin prosecuted, while lawyer Syamil Othman represented the accused.
