Police issued 12,437 summonses and seized 390 vehicles in a nationwide New Year’s Eve operation, with 51 arrests made for various offences.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police issued 12,437 summonses for traffic offences during the nationwide New Year’s Eve 2026 Operations.
The operation ran from 9 pm on New Year’s Eve until 2 am on New Year’s Day.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police also seized 390 vehicles.
He said 25 individuals were arrested under the Road Transport Act 1987.
A further 20 individuals were arrested under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Three individuals were detained under the Penal Code and another three under other laws.
Mohd Yusri said 327 senior officers and 2,460 junior personnel were involved in the operations.
Several other agencies cooperated in the effort.
These included the Road Transport Department with 258 personnel and the National Anti-Drugs Agency with 80 personnel.
The Department of Environment (70), Immigration Department (58), highway concessionaires (54) and local authorities (eight) were also involved.
He added that the operations were carried out at 240 locations nationwide.
The goal was to ensure traffic safety and smooth flow during the celebrations.
