SWCorp deploys 100 motorcycles for littering enforcement and community service

SWCorp acquires 100 special motorcycles to enforce Community Service Orders for littering, with 300 trained officers to monitor and issue compounds.

IPOH: The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) has acquired 100 special motorcycles to enforce Community Service Orders for littering offences.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the motorcycles allow enforcement officers to access any lane to monitor and maintain public cleanliness.

He launched the SWCorp Enforcement Motorcycle Kit team last month, equipping officers to take statements, issue compounds, and bring cases to court.

Nga said about 300 law enforcement officers have received special training to implement the Community Service Order for littering.

“When the court hands down the sentence, offenders will be taken to a public place, given green jackets, and will help our cleaning workers to clean the environment,” he said.

He clarified that the order is meant to educate, not just punish, and can involve tasks like street sweeping, drain washing, and cleaning public toilets.

Nga stressed that the order applies to everyone, including foreigners, as “nobody is above the law.”

He linked the policy to Malaysia’s long-standing Look East Policy, emphasising the need to practice what is learned about public discipline.

For states not yet applying the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 672, Nga said they have been given six months to establish strategic cooperation for implementation.
