Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim directs funds for a new bridge in Kuala Krai after a collapse injured over 50 people at a wedding reception.
KUALA KRAI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the immediate allocation of funds to replace a collapsed suspension bridge here.
The bridge at Lata Rek collapsed yesterday, injuring more than 50 people and disrupting access for local residents.
Anwar’s directive aims to ensure public safety and convenience, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
“The replacement works for the bridge will be carried out by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department in collaboration with relevant agencies,” the statement said.
This collaboration is intended to guarantee prompt action and restore safe access for residents of several nearby villages.
The Prime Minister expressed his deep concern and sympathy for all victims of the incident.
His sympathy was extended particularly to a newly-wed couple and their family, whose wedding reception was disrupted by the collapse.
Media reports stated the festive atmosphere turned chaotic when the bridge suddenly gave way.
Guests at the reception fell into Sungai Chatel Damai when the structure failed.
The PMO stated the Prime Minister views the incident very seriously.
