Foreign vehicle owner answers police summons over RON95 purchase

A Singapore-registered vehicle owner has presented himself to Kulai police for questioning after a viral video showed him allegedly buying subsidised RON95 fuel.

KULAI: The owner of a foreign-registered vehicle has presented himself at the Kulai district police headquarters to assist with an investigation. He is accused of concealing his number plate to purchase subsidised RON95 fuel last Friday.

Kulai police chief ACP Tan Seng Lee said the investigation papers are still in progress. They will be promptly referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

“The individuals in the video are a married couple aged 63 and 67,” he said in a statement today.

Media reports yesterday said police tracked down the owner, a Permanent Resident based in Singapore. He was summoned to aid the investigation following a viral social media video.

The one-minute, 30-second video showed the owner of a Singapore-registered vehicle pumping RON95 fuel. The case is being investigated under Section 108(3)(e) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Previously, the Johor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living inspected a petrol station following a complaint. State KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said enforcement action was initiated under the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

This was for a suspected breach of the directive prohibiting the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign-registered vehicles.
