Parents use SARA aid to stock up on school supplies

A Malaysian mother shows how the RM100 SARA aid helped her family prepare school supplies without spending extra cash

THE government’s one-off RM100 Rahmah Basic Contribution (SARA) in 2025 had benefited an estimated 22 million Malaysians aged 18 and above.

As the deadline to use the aid ended on December 31, 2025, one mother shared how it helped her prepare school supplies for her children this year.

Threads user Izzati Ab Rahman revealed that she and her husband combined their RM100 SARA aid each, totalling RM200, to purchase stationery and school essentials.

“We bought stationery and school supplies for the kids. Thank God, we didn’t spend a single cent,” she wrote.

Photos shared online showed a wide range of branded stationery items, including pencils, coloured pencils, crayons, glue sticks, scissors and mechanical pencils, which she said would last her children for a year.

Describing the purchase as satisfying, Izzati added that the supplies would be kept aside and used gradually.

“It’s satisfying, right? But this has to be hidden first. Bring it out little by little, otherwise it’ll all disappear,” she joked.

Other parents echoed her sentiments in the comments. Nur Lily said it was a great idea she had not thought of before. “It’s okay, this year we’ll do it this way… save RM100,” she said.

Another mother, Munibah Izhar, shared that parents often feel more excited than their children when buying stationery in bulk.
Teacher Adibah Farhanah also praised parents who are attentive to their children’s needs.

“I salute parents who are mindful of their children’s necessities, because many of the students I deal with come to school with pencil cases that only have a short pencil and bits of eraser left,” she said.
