LRT3’s crucial safety test delayed over unresolved issues

Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirms the failure-free run for LRT3 is on hold due to ongoing technical problems, with a key meeting scheduled for next week.

PETALING JAYA: The critical failure-free run for the Light Rail Transit 3 service has not yet started due to persistent technical issues.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said a meeting between Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and the main contractor will be held next week to decide the next steps.

This meeting will determine when the crucial safety test can finally commence.

Loke confirmed there is still no fixed date for the test to begin.

“FFR must be carried out on all trains on the line before commencing the trial operations,” he said at a press conference on Prasarana’s 2025 performance.

He noted that only three train sets have so far successfully completed the required failure-free run.

Loke emphasised that safety remains the absolute priority despite the disappointment over the delay.

Prasarana had previously confirmed the line missed its December 2025 operational start due to unresolved system stability and software issues.

In a separate development, Loke announced that platform screen doors will be installed at 20 stations this year.
