Agong attends 235th meeting of conference of rulers

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di- Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah today attended the 235th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara, here.
The meeting was chaired by the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
The second-day meeting was attended by all the Malay rulers from the respective states as well as all the Yang Dipertua Negeri except for Pahang which did not send a representative.
The rulers present were accompanied by their menteri besar, while Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud were accompanied by their respective chief ministers.
Also present at the meeting were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, Malaysian Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin.
Keeper of the Rulers Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said in a statement that the rulers and leaders at the meeting were briefed on the latest developments with regard to national defence by Zulkifeli and on security issues by Mohd Bakri.
Syed Danial said the two-hour meeting also discussed Islamic religious matters, the appointment of the deputy chairman of the Election Commission and the appointment of judges to the apex court. – Bernama
