Disabled woman raped by roommate

KUALA LUMPUR: A disabled and mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped two times by her Bangladeshi roommate.
The woman, who only wanted to be identified as Ng, was raped in a room in her company hostel at Taman OUG, which she shared with eight male Bangaldeshi workers.
Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie said that Ng, who worked as a cashier for a car wash company in Kuala Lumpur, was raped in March and April this year.
She was later found pregnant after undergoing a check-up at a clinic close to her work place, Heng told reporters at MCA Public Services and Complaints Department here today.
"Ng is from Tanjung Karang and was previously staying at her company manager's place.
"She was later relocated to the company's hostel with a male roommate in March. She had asked her employer to find her another room without any male workers, but was refused," she added.
Heng said that Ng did not have the means to rent elsewhere and subsequently lodged a report at the Brickfields Seri Petaling Police Station in May.
"Police arrested the suspect, but he was later released on bail," she said, adding that the police has closed the case.
Heng said Ng's company has neglected her after it had failed to provide a safe working environment.
"Her employer had breached the provisions under the Occupation Safety and Health Act 2014... such a thing would not have happened if her employer had placed her in a hostel with a much safer environment," Heng said.
"We are urging the police and the Attorney-General's Chambers to reopen the case and to conduct a thorough investigation until justice is served," she said.
