KUALA LUMPUR: Iceland, known as "The Land of Fire and Ice", has plenty of hidden attractions that are unaware to Malaysians.
"Many films such as Game of Thrones have been shot in Iceland because of its mind-blowing landscape," said Thorleifur Thor Johnson, the manager of Promote Iceland, a company based in Reykjavik, whose delegation is here to promote tourism and trade.
He was speaking to reporters at a roadshow event organised by Promote Iceland in collaboration with Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (Matta) today.
He added that other movies filmed in Iceland were Thor, Noah and more recently The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Iceland is also known for their breathtaking green Northern Lights, which illuminates the sky during a clear winter night, said Johnson.
Unlike other countries, Iceland relies on natural resources for their own living such as getting drinking water from rivers that flow from the mountains.
Johnson said geothermal energy is used to heat more than 90% of the buildings and the swimming pools.
He added that about 95 % of tourists who visited Iceland were happy with their vacation and 85 % of them said they would return.
