KUALA LUMPUR: Smiles and cheers were seen on the faces of senior citizens as Sports Toto launched its Chinese New Year Ang Pau Donation Campaign 2015.
Over 2,000 senior citizens received an ang pow, a mini hamper and mandarin oranges from Sports Toto in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium.
Sports Toto Malaysia executive director Vincent Seow said the campaign is the company's biggest annual charity event, and was an excellent platform to fulfil its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
"In the spirit of giving back to society, we find that the campaign is a very effective way to help needy senior citizens.
"We want every senior citizen, regardless of race, to benefit from the event which covers 45 cities and towns, and involves at least 16,000 senior citizens in both peninsular and East Malaysia," he said.

To date, Sports Toto has spent over RM16 million in the campaign, which has benefited over 300,000 senior citizens nationwide since 1989.
The senior citizens present at the event today included those from old folk homes like the Little Sisters of the Poor, Rumah Charis, Rumah Orang-orang Tua Ampang Kg Baru, Joy Heaven, Rumah Orang-orang Tua Seri Setia and Malaysian Association for the Blind.
The event was graced by Deputy Finance Minister II Datuk Chua Tee Yong and witnessed by Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Robin Tan.
Chua applauded the efforts made by Sports Toto, and urged more companies to come forward with similar events.
"These programmes during festive periods is important because there are many who cannot celebrate (the Chinese New Year) without such assistance," he added.
