SUBANG JAYA: A group of NGOs have come together to spread the message that Chinese New Year is a festival for all Malaysians, in an effort to foster unity among the various races in the country.
The Hidayah Centre Foundation (HCF), Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM), Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) and the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (Macma) will organise an open house celebration on Saturday to encourage all Malaysians to embrace the spirit of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
The annual event themed "Towards a Successful Life", is currently in its sixth year since its inception.
HCF's director of strategic alliance, Muhammad Fakharuddin Abdul Kudos said that this event will provide an opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims to celebrate the festival together.
"The objective of this event is to strengthen the relationship between Malaysians and correct the misconception of Islam among non-Muslims." said Morhalim Osman a representative of Ikram.
"This is parallel to the teachings of Islam that emphasise on brotherhood between human beings regardless of their religion, race or beliefs in a multicultural society," he added.
Visitors to the event will be treated to Chinese cultural performances, children's activities, a lucky draw and angpows.
All members of the public are invited to the buffet on Feb 28 from 11.30am until 2.30pm at Restoran Cha Lou, Tingkat 2, Aeon Big Subang Jaya. Admission to the event is free.
