PETALING JAYA: Gerakan is disappointed with the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly for passing amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015).
Its President Datuk Mah Siew Keong said the party was consistent in its stand on hudud which he described as unconstitutional and impractical on Malaysian society.
"The sanctity of the Federal Constitution as the supreme law of the land is severely threatened by this move," Mah said in a statement.
Mah added the criminal laws must remain secular and apply equally to all Malaysian as agreed by our founding fathers.
"This is the Merdeka consensus and we will defend it to the best of our ability," he said.
Mah reiterated that Gerakan has been very firm and consistent in its stand that Hudud is unconstitutional and impractical in Malaysian society.
He added Gerakan's Legal Team had filed a case at the Kota Baru High Court yesterday to challenge the constitutionality of Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) that facilitates the implementation of Hudud.
"We now leave it to the court to implement our laws in a fair and just manner and I am certain if they do so our challenge will be accepted," Mah said.
