Burst water pipe develops into sinkhole

PETALING JAYA: A burst water pipe beneath the sidewalk of Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, near the Jalan Imbi intersection, caused a depression which then developed into a sinkhole today.
A guardhouse belonging to a nearby car dealership was damaged in the 6am incident.
In a statement yesterday, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) strategic communications and public relations director Mahmood Abdul Razak said the company initiated immediate investigations into the incident.
"We cannot say how long the investigations will take but our engineers are already on the ground," he added.
Mahmood said they were working to repair the sidewalk and reopen as soon as possible the stretch of Jalan Bukit Bintang which had been closed to traffic.
The road will remain closed for at least 48 hours to enable repair works to be carried out.
