Six men in the dock over terrorism related activities

ALOR STAR: Six men including a father and son and an Indonesian national were charged in the Sessions Court here today with being involved in terrorism related activities.
Appearing before Judge Rusita Md Lazim were Murad Halimmuddin Hassan, 49, and his son Abu Daud, 25, Ali Saifuddin (Indonesian national), Nor Azmi Jalani, 28, Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof, 27, and Hadharami Hashim, 38.
According to the charge sheet, the six were alleged have conspired to promote terrorism related activities in Malaysia between Jan 30 and April 6 at house No 61, Pengkalan Batu Hampar, Mukim Air Putih, Pendang.
They were charged under Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 120B(1) of the same Code, whereby they can be jailed up to 30 years and fined, if convicted.
No plea was recorded from all the accused who were represented by lawyers Che Sharif Mat and Mohd Zainuri Zahir while deputy public prosecutor Salim Soib appeared for the prosecution.
Rusita fixed May 31 for re-mention and disallowed bail for all the accused.
Meanwhile, Murad Halimmuddin also faced a second charge, of supporting terrrorist activities on March 29, at the same place.
For this, he was charged under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code which provides for the same punishment, if convicted.
No plea was recorded and the case was also set for re-mention on May 31. – Bernama
