Malaysia relocates embassy in quake-hit Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu is operating from a new location as the building housing the mission was badly damaged in the massive earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25.

The embassy has shifted from Pulchock to Sanepa of Lalitpur since Tuesday, according to the embassy.

With the relocation, the embassy has started providing some limited services like collecting applications for and issuing social visas, the embassy said.

"For employment visa, we will re-start very soon," the embassy said in a notice.

Malaysia is the most popular destination for Nepalese workers.
Meanwhile, two earthquake tremors measuring over four on the Richter scale jolted Kathmandu and its vicinity Wednesday. No new damage has so far been reported.

The first tremor of magnitude of 4.2, with the epicentre in Dolkha, about 100 km east of Kathmandu, struck at 11.10 am (1.25 pm in Malaysia) while the second, of 4.4 magnitude, with the epicentre in Kathmandu, shook the Nepalese capital at 2.47 pm (5.02 pm), according to the National Seismological Centre (NSC) in Nepal.

More than 670 aftershocks have been recorded so far since the April 25 massive earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, hit Nepal.

The April 25 earthquake and its May 12 powerful aftershock have killed at least 8,600 people and injured more than 17,000 and damaged property worth billions of dollars. – Bernama
