Sothi: No record of March CWC meeting by Subra

KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC crisis came to a head today with Datuk S. Sothinathan, who lost his job as secretary-general, claiming that deputy president Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam had misrepresented himself by claiming to requisition an emergency meeting of the 2009 CWC in March.
“We have checked our records and such a meeting never took place. There is no record of such a meeting.
“Nobody asked me, as secretary-general, to call for such a meeting,” he claimed at a press conference.
However, Datuk T. Mohan, a leader with Dr Subramaniam’s faction, said the meeting did take place at the MIC headquarters and was requisitioned by more then one-third of CWC members.
Subramaniam and one-third of CWC members had requisitioned for a meeting of the 2009 CWC with secretary-general A. Saktivel, he said.
“It was announced to the whole country. There were reporters present too. What is he talking about at this late hour,” he added.
“We are focused on holding elections on July 10 and he is trying to disrupt it,” Mohan said referring to branch elections announced by the faction.
Sothinathan also said there was no record of a meeting purportedly held at the MIC headquarters during which it was decided that Datuk G. Palanivel and four others had ceased to be members of MIC by virtue of Article 91 of the party constitution.
He claimed Subramaniam had misrepresented the facts of the alleged meeting to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
“I firmly believe that if the RoS was aware of the misrepresentation, it would have reprimanded him (Subramaniam). We have already notified the RoS about this,” he said.
The crisis in MIC erupted when the RoS sent a letter directing Palanivel to hold re-election for the three vice-presidents and 23 CWC posts on Dec 5.
Palanivel and four others refused and took the matter to the High Court saying the RoS had no such powers.
The High Court rejected his pleas on June 15 and he appeal to the Court of Appeal, which will hear his appeal on July 13.
The High Court will hear his stay application against the Dec 5 RoS directive on July 6.
