KUALA LUMPUR: The Anti-Bersih 4.0 rally planned for Saturday and Sunday in the city has been postponed to a future date.
The organising chairman, Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, who is also the chairman of Gabungan NGO-NGO Malaysia (a coalition of pro-government NGOs) said the decision was made on the advice of the police after a meeting between the two parties at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here this afternoon.
"We heed the advice of the police. We will announce a new date later, probably before Malaysia Day (Sept 16).
"We do not want to be labelled as lawbreakers if we insist on going ahead with the rally this weekend," he told Bernama.
The coalition's rally was to be a counter-rally to the one planned for on the same dates by a group calling itself Bersih 4.0.
City police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa has warned that the Bersih 4.0 rally is illegal has it does not fully meet conditions required under the Peaceful Assemblies Act 2012. — Bernama
