No mention of dismissal of seven key members at Umno Supreme Council meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Supreme Council (MT) meeting today focused on efforts to strengthen the party and the direction it was taking, instead of the dismissal of seven key party leaders associated with disciplinary problems.
Several members of the MT said the meeting held for about an hour and a half discussed the party's preparations for the Umno General Assembly here from Dec 8 to 12.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the meeting, chaired by party president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, went smoothly.
"Everything is well ... and I'm looking forward to attending the 69th Umno General Assembly next month," he told reporters after attending the meeting at the Parliament's temporary premises here.
Perlis Umno Liaison Committee chairman, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the meeting also discussed various issues related to the party, which is the hope of the people, especially to the Malays in the country.
"The party (Umno) is the platform for the struggle of the Malays ... they see Umno as the heart of their struggle," he said.
Another MT member, Datuk Johari Ghani also expressed his satisfaction at the content of the discussions at the meeting.
"The rumours circulating about the dismissal of seven party members are not true and was not discussed at all," he said.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said matters decided in the meeting was the best way to strengthen the party.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor said he would issue a statement regarding the meeting later. — Bernama
