KUALA LUMPUR: A rescuer of stray animals is upset with some people who are out to move her and the animals from their current premise in Alor Star, Kedah.
Halijah Idris, also fondly known as Mak Intan, told theSun that certain individuals have tried to move her recently through a letter from the land office.
"I have an acre of land that accommodates some 700 stray animals. I feed and care for them, including when sick and wounded," she said, adding that she is upset with the people who dislike what she is doing.
The former medical assistant in the military for seven years, said animals too need to be cared.
She alleged that the unknown individuals have intensified their efforts against her two weeks before the Chinese New Year festivities by blocking the shelter's entrance.
"I can only hope they will stop their activities. Why do they need to be so cruel?" the 68-year-old said.
Halijah is the widower of Muhammad Azmi Ismail, who is widely known as Pak Mie, who died at the age of 58 from stroke.
The Tanjung Bendahara shelter continues until now due to Halijah's efforts.
"I will seek the local authorities' help next week because I'm afraid of the danger that they may cause to the strays. They are like my own children," she added.
She was recently named as one of the recipients of the "Dignifying A Profession Award" by the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya.
