Senior citizen fined RM3,000 for impersonating a doctor

JOHOR BARU: A senior citizen got off lightly when he was slapped with a RM3,000 fine for impersonating a doctor.
Jogindhar Singh Parkash, 66, pleaded guilty to practicing medicine under the name of Dr Ashok at Klinik Theesan in Taman Universiti here from 2014 to Jan 18 this year, where he deceived patients into believing that he was a doctor.
In mitigation, Jogindhar who was unrepresented, pleaded for a light sentence, he told Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias that he is a heart patient, and had to care for his wife and two sons who are still studying.
The charge underSection 419 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum seven year jail term or fine or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Asmah Zainal Ariffin prosecuted.
