Khalid clarifies daughter's company had license before he became IGP (Updated)

KAJANG: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) has clarified that his daughter's company dealing in firearms had its license long before he became police chief.
"They (the company) had the license to operate and repair guns and weapons long before I became IGP and I am sure they have adhered to the pertaining laws which have been put in place," he told reporters after a function at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today.
Khalid also clarified that he had previously warned his family against obtaining any government or police contracts for arms.
"I also objected them from obtaining any government tender or police tender.
"There is no such thing as them obtaining government tenders. If the claim was true, it would have surely been published by Sarawak Report now," he said referring to whistleblower site Sarawak Report who reported the issue last week.
Khalid however declined further comments saying the matter will be investigated as soon as possible.
"Let the investigations go on and if there is any wrongdoings, action will be taken," said Khalid.
On another matter, Khalid said the police are doing everything possible to expedite the release of four Malaysians kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf militants off Sabah waters.
He added the authorities were doing everything including negotiating with the Philippines authorities to return the four Sarawakians.
“We have a high ranking officer from Bukit Aman who just returned after holding talks with the Philippines authorities in Manila," he said,
On April 1, four Sarawakians, Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Hung Sing, 34, Wong Teck Chii, 29, and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21 were abducted by gunmen in the waters off Ligitan Island in Sabah.
